Hello everyone!
I am Takuchanman.
Following on from my article on bananas on my recent trip to Okinawa, I would like to write an article on mangoes, which are famous in Okinawa (one of the prefectures in Japan).
Many of you have probably never eaten a mango before, haven’t you?
In fact, mangoes are grown in Okinawa, Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures in Japan, but domestically produced mangoes do not appear in supermarkets all over the country.
What can sometimes be found in supermarkets are imported mangoes from abroad, mainly from Southeast Asia, such as India and Indonesia. The cultivation method of domestic mangoes is said to differ between Okinawa, Miyazaki and Amami Islands. Mango flowers are very small and are pollinated by flies and bees, but the fruit is very sensitive to sunlight and rain.
It is a very delicate fruit, and although it likes sunlight, it can get sunburnt if the sunlight is too strong, and in some areas it is also susceptible to rain, so it is grown in greenhouses.
Domestically produced mangoes are very popular and delicious because they are fully ripe, juicy and high in sugar content, but they do not last long and are not available in supermarkets throughout the country.
In comparison, foreign-produced mangoes are cheaper and easier to buy in supermarkets, but because they are imported a month before they are fully ripe, their quality is a little lower than that of domestic ripe ones.
The best way to eat fully ripe mangoes is to have them shipped directly from the internet!
Lets Try !
(The price is high due to its high quality! LOL)
